Using an Inquiry-Design Model in the Social Sciences- Planning and Assessment
Friday February 28, 2025 9:30am - 10:45am CST
Social science teachers and classes continue to adapt and evolve. While the revised Illinois Social Science Standards were implemented in the 2022-23 school year, it can still be challenging to include all the components in your classroom. If you have ever felt like you are overwhelmed and don’t know where to begin, join us for a session that will provide you a roadmap for using the inquiry-design model for teaching so you can connect content, skills, and multiple perspectives of historical events and social science phenomena.

Using an Inquiry-Design Model in the Social Sciences- Addressing Difficult Conversations in an Increasing Political Climate
Friday February 28, 2025 11:00am - 12:15pm CST
Educators (and parents!) are always modeling and teaching academic, social, emotional, and civic lessons, even if they are not intentionally “political.” In thinking about the increasing divide within the United States, students need the opportunity to learn how to communicate and discuss difficult and potentially controversial topics. We will discuss strategies to help you identify ways to use discussion to teach and engage our students. This session will enhance the practice of educators with strategies and resources to create a classroom climate in which there are equitable opportunities for all students.
